ROUTES
Phase 1, BEGINNING: ties the parking and traffic problems relating to Petco Park, particularly when there is a concurrent event of significance in the Convention Center with related parking problems of Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo.
Phase 2, UPTOWN: extends the route along Park Blvd to El Cajon Blvd, and then to a station located close to intersection of El Cajon Blvd. and I-15. The route provides commuter solutions to the rapidly increasing population growth related to high-rise residential construction planned and under way in the North Park area.
Phase 3, EMBARCADERO / AIRPORT: addresses the potential monorail contribution to future development of Seaport Village, the Embarcadero, the cruise ship terminal and access to San Diego International Airport. It is the only transport system that can easily integrate into the north and south embarcadero improvement plans.
Phase 4, SDSU:, continues Uptown Extension to the transit center at SDSU. This would significantly reduce auto traffic from northeast of the core city, and provide a convenient commute for SDSU students living in downtown and North Park areas. A station location above the new trolley expands commuter choices and reachable areas with public transportation.
Phase 5, HILLCREST: connects the UCSD Hospital, Hillcrest business and residential districts to the downtown shopping area, Petco Park and a Convention Center transfer station.
It is the point at which a future extension to heavily populated areas between I-5 and I 805 freeways along Regents Rd. to University Town Center and UCSD. This route could solve the Regents Rd. bridge controversy.
Phase 6, AIRPORT/MISSION BAY: Connects Sea World to San Diego Downtown. It connects a large parking lot in an unimproved Mission Bay area to the airport for long term parking. A previously studied monorail connection connecting Pacific Beach and Mission Beach to Mission Valley is a logical expansion as a connecting route.
Phase 7, CORONADO: Connects Coronado Island and the Naval Air Station to the mainland. It relieves Coronado Bridge traffic and provides a potential magnetic tourist attraction with a magnificent unobstructed harbor view and easy access to Coronado activities and sight-seeing.
